Wigan Warriors injury update including key man’s serious injury confirmed

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has provided an injury update ahead of their Super League clash against Hull FC this week.

The Warriors were shocked by the Black and Whites when the sides last met, with Hull FC emerging 24-22 winners despite a late attempt at a comeback.

That was the first of three defeats in five games, meaning they are no longer shoe-ins to finish top of the pile come the end of the season.

A 40-4 drubbling at the hands of Warrington Wolves at the DW Stadium before Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos defeated them 30-4 means they’re actually now behind Hull KR in the standings.

Captain Liam Farrell was left out of the squad to face St Helens at Magic Weekend late on, being omitted just before the game.

On this, Peet said: “We’re looking relatively healthy. Liam Farrell had a scan on Monday after pulling out of the game with his calf, he has a low grade pull on his calf so he’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”

Another man that will be missing for a significant amount of time is Ryan Hampshire – who has likely played his final game for the Warriors, with his contract up at the end of this campaign.

Wigan Warriors Liam FarrellPeet said: “Ryan Hampshire also had an x-ray following the Leeds game, he’s suffered a fracture on his arm so we’re looking upwards of a couple of months for Ryan.”

Also missing from the squad for this weekend is Kaide Ellis, who picked up a one-match suspension in their Magic Weekend win over St Helens, which was a Grade B Head Contact charge (higher end) from the Match Review Panel.
