The 4 Wigan Warriors players set to leave as things stand

Wigan Warriors have been brought somewhat down to earth in recent weeks.

The side, who currently hold all four of the League Leaders’ Shield, Super League Grand Final, World Club Challenge and the Challenge Cup had looked that they would be out of sight, shoe-ins to finish the regular season at the top of the Super League pile.

However, the loss of duo Jai Field and Bevan French proved important, and a shock defeat to Hull FC – before a 40-4 trouncing from Warrington Wolves – made things interesting, before their woes were compounded by a defeat to Leeds Rhinos and the losses of Brad O’Neill through an ACL injury and Harry Smith due to suspension.

Now, the team looks a little bit more human, but are probably still the favourites to win the Grand Final due to their experience of big occasions (and of winning things) compared to Hull KR and Warrington Wolves.

For next season, however, who will Matt Peet be able to rely on to help his side take yet more silverware?

Versatile veteran Willie Isa is likely finally on his way out from the club.

Isa has been a Wigan Warriors player for nine years, and in that time, has won three Grand Finals, two League Leaders’ Shields, the Challenge Cup and two World Club Challenges.Willie Isa Wigan Warriors Super League

In over 200 appearances for them, he’s played in a number of positions, including forward roles, centre and winger.

He’s off-contract at the end of the season, so will likely have to search for pastures new after this campaign.

The same applies to Mike Cooper, who previously played almost 300 games for Warrington Wolves and has been with the Warriors since 2022.

At the age of 35, if he finds a new club, they will likely be the final side of his career.

Another versatile player in the ranks is Ryan Hampshire, but he too appears to be on his way out.

He’s behind some excellent halves in the pecking order, with both contracted through 2028 – and he will likely be on his way.

The club has a one-year extension option on Jacob Douglas, but since this hasn’t yet been triggered (as far as we know), he also seems to be heading through the exit door.
