Wigan Warriors centre Adam Keighran comments on future and possible NRL return
Wigan Warriors centre Adam Keighran says he is ‘open’ to an NRL return in the future, calling it an ‘ideal thing.’ The 27-year-old also said he’s ‘happy’ at the Cherry and Whites, where he was part of Matt Peet’s quadruple winning squad in 2024, with one year still to run on his contract
Signing from Catalans Dragons, Keighran put pen to paper on a two-year deal, which expires at the end of next year. And as of rugby league’s new anti-tampering deadline, which has been brought forward to December 1, Keighran is now free to speak to other clubs about his future.
Speaking on the Keegan and Company podcast, Keighran aired his current stance, with the former New Zealand Warriors and Sydney Roosters back not ruling out an extension with Wigan or a second crack at the NRL.
“I’m pretty open,” he said. “I’ve got another year with Wigan and I’m sure we’re going to be successful again. We’ve got such a good thing and hopefully next year is as successful as this year. But, being back home would be such an ideal thing.
“But for me, in Wigan, it’s such a successful club and such a good environment so I can’t complain about being there. I’m happy there, but as I say, I’m open to seeing what’s available
“If the opportunity comes back here (in Australia) maybe, but if not I’m happy at Wigan. It’s such a good environment.”
Wigan kick off the 2025 Super League season against Leigh Leopards on Thursday 13 February. They won all four trophies on offer last season, winning the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, Super League League Leaders Shield, and Grand Final.
