Linkin Park fans are speculating the band could be making a comeback with a new frontman after Chester Bennington passed away in 2017.
Bennington was found dead at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California in July 2017, after rising to fame with Linkin Park in the early Noughties.
Over the years the band gained a huge fanbase with their seven studio albums, with tracks like ‘In The End’ still remaining firm favorites to this day.
The group went on hiatus after Bennington died, but on Saturday (August 24), the band updated its website with a mysterious countdown timer which started at 100 hours.
The countdown is set to end on Wednesday (August 28), at which point fans are expecting a big announcement – and a lot of people already think they know what it is.
As Linkin Park would be in need of a frontman in order to make a comeback, many fans have suggested the announcement could relate to someone taking over from Bennington.
A lot of people expressed hope that they’d be able to hear the band perform again, with one person writing: “I hope they announce the new singer, LP deserves to continue [with] their legacy.”
However, other social media users have taken the speculation one step further, by discussing exactly who the new frontman could be.
You see, just a couple of days after Linkin Park launched its countdown timer, fellow band Sum 41 put a post on their social media which told fans to ‘tune in Wednesday morning’.
“Deryck Whibley announcement,” it added, referring to the band’s lead vocalist.
The timing of the announcement caught the attention of Linkin Park fans, and as a result many people believe Whibley could soon be the newest member of Linkin Park.
“Rumor is the lead singer of Sum 41 is going to go on tour the new singer for LINKIN PARK,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another added: “Dude from Sum 41 gonna be Linkin Park’s new singer???”
While some fans are just curious to see whether their suspicions are correct, others have mixed feelings about the possibility of Whibley joining the band.
One person included a crying emoji as they commented: “He’s disbanded Sum 41 to join Linkin Park hasn’t he.”
Another added: “Hearing rumours of Sum41 front man Deryck Whibley joining Linkin Park. Ugh, I hope not. No hate to him, I just don’t think it’s the right fit. Honestly, I’d prefer if they just get a female singer instead, so no one can make Chester comparisons.”
However, others have shared their excitement for the potential announcement, with one commenting: “Honestly if Deryck is the new stand in vocalist for Linkin Park they have picked a great choice, he’s already proven he can sing a bunch of their songs and I have confidence he will smash it.”
With the clock ticking, it won’t be long before fans get to the bottom of the mystery.
A lot of public attention is part of the package of being a celebrity, but often this can become highly intrusive for someone who is just trying to go about their day.
The videos saw Roan hit out people for the way they assume that her fame means that they can treat her differently in public.
In one clip, shared with her three million TikTok followers, Roan asked: “Would you go up to a random lady and say ‘can I get a photo with you?’ and she’s like ‘no what the f**k and then you get mad at this random lady?
“Would you be offended if she says no to your time because she has her own time? Would you would you stalk her family?”
She went on to call out how ‘abuse and harassment, stalking whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous’.

She continued: “I don’t give a f**k if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo, or for your time, or for a hug. That’s not normal, that’s weird.
“It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s f**king weird.
“I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior.”
The 26-year-old captioned one of the videos: “Do not assume this is directed at someone or a specific encounter. This is just my side of the story and my feelings.”
The clips drew a mixed response on social media, with some people less than impressed with Roan’s reaction.
One wrote: “She doesn’t know being famous comes with lots of sacrifices?”
But others defended Roan, with one fan saying: “Well she does not owe y’all anything, it doesn’t matter how famous she is… knowing she DID take pictures with random people, she can rightfully not be in the mood and decline stuff.”
Another took a more middle ground saying that celebrities have a right to say no, but if fans are respectful then it’s OK for them to ask.
They commented: “Idk how to feel about this bc she’s right she has every right to say no but asking for a picture or a hug respectfully isn’t creepy behavior.”
