Chiefs WR Rashee Rice feared to have suffered season-ending ACL tear, will undergo MRI
The Kansas City Chiefs’ struggling passing game appears to have taken a major hit on Sunday.
Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is feared to have suffered a serious knee injury, likely a torn ACL, that could cause him to miss the rest of the season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapport reported on Sunday. Rice will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity.
Rice was carted into the locker room after suffering a injury in the first half of Sunday’s 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
Head coach Andy Reid told reporters following the game that the team is hoping for the best despite not expecting the news it wants.
Rice went down after quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw an interception on a pass intended for Travis Kelce and accidentally dove into Rice’s knee while attempting to tackle Chargers defensive back Kristian Fulton.
It was immediately clear that Rice potentially suffered a serious injury, and the Chiefs quickly ruled him out after he was carted off the sideline.
Rice has emerged as the top receiving option for Mahomes on the young season, entering Week 4 with a team-high 24 catches with 288 yards and two touchdowns in three games. No other player on K.C.’s roster entered Sunday with double-digit receptions.
The Chiefs found a way to get a win regardless, as Kelce showed up for his first big game of the season with 89 yards on seven catches and Xavier Worthy flashed again to score on a 54-yard catch.
But even as the Chiefs stand at 4-0, losing Rice for any time would prove an enormous loss.
