Bryce Harper out of lineup against Dodgers with hand injury
PHILADELPHIA — After semi-promising to take it light on the field this week, just having returned from an Injured List stay, Bryce Harper was back among the injured Wednesday.
The pending All-Star first baseman was sidelined by a bruised left hand, courtesy of a fielding mishap in the prior night’s series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Leading off the top of the second inning, the Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas slapped a low line drive toward the hole that Harper reached to backhand. The ball didn’t seem to catch all glove. Instead, it bounded off Harper’s glove – and apparently part of his glove hand – right to second baseman Bryson Stott, who made a quick throw to sprinting starting pitcher Zack Wheeler to nip Rojas at first.
Harper could be seen flexing and shaking his hand after the play, but he stayed in the game until the seventh inning, well after the Phillies had built a big lead en route to a 10-1 victory.
