It’s not been an easy week for the Oklahoma Sooners, with portal departure after portal departure over the last several days.
So to say that the good news that emerged today felt like an early Christmas present for the Sooners is, if anything, underselling it.
On Saturday, elite wide receiver Deion Burks announced his return for the 2025 season for Oklahoma in a tremendous video.
Burks’s video initially implies his departure from the team before he switches up, sporting a new number. Next season, Burks is switching from #6 to #4, a number previously worn by Nic Anderson, who transferred from the team.
It’s impossible to overstate how important Burks’s return to the team is. Oklahoma has already had six wide receivers enter the transfer portal and many were nervous that Burks would declare for the NFL Draft. Burks is far and away the most talented player in the room, and dare I say on the offense, so keeping him raises the floor and ceiling of the Sooners’ offense next season.
