Cincinnati Bengals Owner Talks Departure of Star Running Back

The Cincinnati Bengals will begin a new era at the running back position in 2024.

The Cincinnati Bengals are hitting the reset button on the running back position this season after a seven year run with Joe Mixon carrying the load.

While the team has some solid options present on the roster, the loss of Mixon will certainly be felt in the running game.

Bengals owner and team president Mike Brown spoke to reporters at the team’s annual media luncheon, and among the topics he discussed was Mixon’s departure, how he felt about him as a player, and how he hopes for future success from his former star.

“I like Joe Mixon,” Brown said. “I liked him here as a player, I liked him as a person. He had a buoyant, upbeat spirit to him, and it showed in practices. He liked to run the ball way down the field, and if anybody wanted to race with him, he’d take them on and see if he could beat them. He just was a positive player in practices, and he played well for us in games. There were things that came along and happened that are difficult to deal with. I honestly think for Joe, he’s gone to a good team. He’ll do well down there. I think that’s what should have happened.”

The team will now look to veteran Zack Moss who they brought in from free agency as well as second-year back Chase Brown, who has earned some rave reviews from his coaching staff this offseason.

Without a doubt, it will be a running back by committee situation in Cincinnati for the first time in a very long time after over a half decade was spent with a reliable bell cow in Mixon.
