Ben Hunt’s return to Brisbane could see a young halfback leave the club.

According to Code Sports, new Broncos coach Michael Maguire has given Jock Madden permission to talk with other teams.

Despite being contracted until the end of 2026, the 24-year-old could be set for an NRL club switch, or even a move abroad to the Super League.

The Rabbitohs have emerged as a potential suitor for Madden as they build their team under new coach Wayne Bennett.

WWOS has reported the “unwanted halfback” is considered “surplus to requirement” at Red Hill, with his management set to approach South Sydney in the hope of making a deal.

The Scone-born talent could provide competition for English import Lewis Dodd, who is set to start the new season in the No. 7 jersey.

Madden proved his ability in the league last season as Adam Reynolds’ injury replacement.

He played 10 first-grade matches in 2024, scoring two tries and setting up five.

While the Broncos had an underwhelming campaign, his solid performances and professionalism made him a useful addition to the halves department.
