Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of former Wigan Warriors youngster Adam Jones. The outside back has penned a one-year deal with the club having failed to make a senior appearance for the Warriors.
Jones does have first-team experience with York Knights, Cornwall and Rochdale Hornets, with tries coming with the latter two clubs. However, after spending most of last season on the sidelines with a knee injury, the 21-year-old will be keen to kick on next season and show his best in the colours of Widnes.
Jones becomes the latest to join the Vikings, following Cameron Brown, McKenzie Buckley, Lewis Hall and Dec Patton to the DCBL Stadium.
“I’m really excited to have signed with such a great club with lots of history,” Jones told the Widnes Vikings club website.
“After speaking to Allan (Coleman) it felt like the perfect move for me to develop my game and challenge myself in the Championship after a year out with a serious knee injury.
“I’m hoping to bring passion and a good work ethic to the team and when I get the chance to play, I’ll always put my best foot forward to improve the team in any way I can.
He added: “The team looks strong from 1-17 and that motivates me to add competition for places. The performances from the team last year were a big factor in me signing here, getting to the playoffs was massive and I’m determined to help the team do even better next season.
“I can’t wait to get started in pre-season and to put my hard work into practice when the season starts.”
Head coach Coleman added: “Adam is a good young player who comes in from Wigan Warriors. I know him well and the potential he has got is really exciting.
“He’s energetic and wants to play at a high level. Which is exactly the kind of player I want at Widnes. He’ll bring a lot of enthusiasm to the group and I’m looking forward to seeing the kind of player he can turn into.”
